A crowd of Giants fans loaded up Petco Park and watched them beat the Padres.

This was probably the last Padres game that I would get to see in person this season. Soon it will be a wrap and we'll call 2012 in for the history books.

The Padres hit several balls hard today and even had the benefit of a nice comedy of errors on the part of the NL West champs, but in the end they couldn't capitalize and just about everything fell short.

Carlos Quentin, who was rumored to have been shelved for the season made a pinch hitting appearance in the 9th, but didn't do much in the way of much.

Chase Headley didn't get any RBI.

Did I miss anything else?

On any other day, it might've been a perfectly OK loss. Coming off of a disappointing series against the Dodgers and a season where things had turned around so much only to finish somewhat weakly, the game is a right bummer.

We start out with the worst season ever... Turn that bit into a showcase of the hottest team that nobody watches... And then limp into a meh final couple weeks.

At least there's tomorrow... And next season.

Go Padres!

With the Giants already having their spot in the playoffs secured, there isn't much our Padres can do to ruin anything in this upcoming series. But they'll be looking to end the final homestand of 2012 on an upswing. Tonight they'll try to end their losing streak at two as they kick off the series against the NL West champs.

The rookie Andrew Werner will take the mound for San Diego and try to bounce back from his last start, which was also against the Giants. Werner had a rough outing in San Francisco, surrendering five runs on six hits and three walks in just 3 2/3 innings. That game clinched the division for the Giants so Werner, and our Padres, will be looking to redeem themselves tonight.

Meanwhile, Ryan Vogelsong will be looking to build off his last start and put together back-to-back quality outings after going through a rough seven-game stretch, over which he posted a 10.31 ERA and 2-4 record. He kept our Friars to just one run, a Chase Headley homer, as he led the Giants to a 5-1 victory. Vogelsong is 2-1 against San Diego this season, but both of his wins came at AT&T Park. In his only start at Petco Park this year, he was tagged for three runs on eight hits and a walk, lasting just three innings.

That homer was Headley's only hit in six career at-bats against Vogelsong. But Headley is batting .333 with seven RBI at Petco Park against Giants pitching this season. Will Venable is 4-for-7 and Yasmani Grandal is 3-for-6 all-time against Vogelsong. Hopefully our offense can reawaken and the bats can come back to life after a rough series against L.A.
