Padres President of Baseball Operations A.J. Preller made a few moves before this year’s MLB trade deadline. They weren’t splashy moves like last year but they helped fill some smaller holes the team had.

Rich Hill adds more depth to the rotation. Ji-Man Choi and Garrett Cooper can serve as the DH, be the first baseman some days and come off the bench in an important situation. Scott Barlow has closing experience and will boost a bullpen that hadn’t been as strong as it was at the beginning of the season.
