Tingler served as the Padres manager for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. In 2020, he led the Padres to the playoffs before ultimately losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 2021, Tingler had high expectations but floundered in the second half of the year, leading to his dismissal following the season. Tingler became the bench coach for the Minnesota Twins, while the Padres hired Bob Melvin.
