Yu Darvish struggled once again on Sunday afternoon and the Marlins took advantage of a flat performance by the Padres’ bullpen to take the series over San Diego 2-1 with a convincing 9-3 victory in Miami.

Darvish allowed four runs on five hits while striking out six batters with one walk. Over his past four starts in the month of July, he’s allowed 16 total runs and struck out 19 with the Padres going 1-3 during that span.

Manny Machado led the team with a pair of hits and drove in one of San Diego’s three runs on the day. Brian O’Grady and Eric Hosmer recorded the other two with O’Grady going yard for a solo shot in the top of the ninth.

After an early 1-0 for the Friars, the Marlins flipped the script with a couple solo home runs in the third and fourth, respectively, before going on a 7-0 run through the fifth and sixth innings.

The Padres have the day off before they welcome the Athletics to Petco Park on Tuesday night for a 7:10 p.m. start time. Chris Paddack will be on the mound against James Kaprielian.
