Padres drop series finale to Reds 5-4

The Padres took a 4-3 lead into the ninth after Manny Machado scored on a throwing error to first base, but the Reds managed to rally in the final period behind a game-tying solo home run from shortstop Kyle Farmer and a go-ahead single by Tyler Stephenson which helped Cincinnati avoid the sweep with a 5-4 decisions at home.

Ryan Weathers began the night for the Friars with four innings of solid pitching where he struck out five and allowed two runs with four walks. He was one of seven pitchers to take the mound for San Diego by the end of the night. Mark Melancon entered the game to attempt another successful close but in unusual fashion, the Shark let up two runs and two walks.

Tommy Pham led the Padres on offense with a pair of RBIs while Jurickson Profar drove in another. Machado led the team with three runs scored.

San Diego is in Philadelphia starting today for a three-game road series that starts later today at 3:05 p.m. Chris Paddack (4-5, 4.64 ERA) is the expected starter with Zack Wheeler (6-4, 2.20 ERA) starting opposite him.
