The Padres offense sputtered for another night as the Rockies topped the Friars 3-2 on Monday night at Coors Field. Trent Grisham hit a two-run homer in his second game back to bring them within one in the top of the ninth but that was all she wrote on an underwhelming night for San Diego’s bats.

Dinelson Lamet got the start and worked four innings before being replaced by Ryan Weathers. Lamet struck out three and allowed one run with a pair of walks. Weathers followed with one K in three innings while also allowing a single run. Miguel Diaz struck out one in the eighth with one run let up.

The Rockies’ Austin Gomber went eight scoreless innings while only allowing three hits and striking out four. Colorado got their other two runs driven in by Trevor Story and Ryan McMahon.

This evening’s game two is set to begin at 5:40 p.m. with Yu Darvish (6-2, 2.28 ERA) and Chi Chi Gonzalez (2-4, 5.74 ERA) on the mound.
