No one likes getting a game yanked away from them on the day of, but the move allows the Padres to get an extra day off following a series loss to the Giants. Being able to potentially sweep the Rockies and push their record to 22-16 would provide a phenomal boost in morale for everyone involved and there’s no better time to do it than against the the team struggling in the basement of the NL West.
After the recent rout of the Giants, the Padres got a much-needed boost to their run differential that now sits at +19. It’s still behind both the Giants (+27) and the Dodgers (+32), but creating distance from the single-digits should be celebrated, nonetheless. The recent rout also allowed the Padres to jump the Giants with the least runs allowed with 120.
