The Padres found a sweet spot on Sunday, which is humerous given the fact that it was March 14th, a.k.a. Pi Day. (Get it, 3/14. 3.14 are the first three numericals of Pi...you get it)
Anyways, the Friars put up 10 runs against the Reds in their latest spring exhibition, taking the contest 10-4. After a game in which the Diamondbacks hit three home runs against them, the Padres hit three of their own across the fifth and sixth innings. They came from veterans Nick Tanielo and Pedro Florimon, as well as 21-year old Eguy Rosario.
San Diego’s held an eight-point lead all the way into the bottom of the ninth inning before the Reds scored a pair to minimize the damage in the end.
Offensively, Jorge Mateo led the team with three hits in five at-bats while both Tanielu and Brian O’Grady each finished 2-of-3. Tanielu led the team with three RBIs.
Yu Darvish started Sunday’s exhibition and went three innings, finishing with three strikeouts and zero hits allowed. Ryan Weathers followed him up with another three innings of work, striking out two but allowing four hits and two runs. Tim Hill also struckout two in one inning pitched.
The Padres (6-8) will take on the Brewers (7-6) tomorrow at 1:10 p.m.
