Gaston was one of the first stars of the San Diego Padres, joining them in their inaugural season in 1969, becoming an All-Star in 1970 and playing with the team until 1974. Gaston batted .257 during his Padres tenure. Gaston would go on to become the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays from 1989-97 and from 2008-10, winning the World Series in 1992 and 1993.
