Bevacqua spent two stints with the Padres, from 1979-80, then rejoining them in 1982-85. Bevacqua was primarily used as a pinch hitter, but he had a tendency to come through in clutch situations. In the 1984 World Series, his only postseason appearance of his career, Bevacqua was used as the team’s designated hitter in the three games at Detroit. During the World Series, he batted a team-high .412 and hit a second home run in the fifth and final game of the series. After being released ahead of the 1986 season, Bevacqua retired after a 15-year career.
