Padres oust A’s 5-3 in series finale victory

Tatis goes yard again for his league-leading 15th home run.

Jake Cronenworth recorded a double in the fourth to break a 2-2 tie and Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his league-leading 15th home run to down the Athletics 5-3 in their series finale at the Oakland Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

The Athletics jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a solo home run by 1B Matt Olson but the Friars responded by knocking in a pair of runs in the third to take the lead int he third with a RBI single by Eric Hosmer and a sac fly by Manny Machado.

On the other side of the inning, Olson tied things up with an RBI single of his own but the tie only lasted an inning before Jake Cronenworth smacked a one-run double to deep right field to gain back their lead that would never be relinquished.

Tatis’ two-run shot came in the seventh to give San Diego a 5-2 lead and Oakland C Sean Murphy’s deep shot on the other side brought them within two but the combination of Drew Pomeranz and Trevor Rosenthal allowed just a single hit through the final two innings.

Starter Garrett Richards pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits, three runs, and striking out nine.

The Padres return home to face the 19-20 Rockies at Petco Park in a three game series starting tomorrow at 6:10pm.
