Eric Hosmer hit a two-run homer in the first inning to get the Padres scoring started on Wednesday night, but the Angels retaliated with with a trio of deep shots in the second inning which were more than San Diego could overcome in a 5-2 loss at Petco Park in the team’s home finale of the 2020 regular season.

Mike Clevinger started the game for the Padres but only lasted the opening inning before being pulled. He retired three-straight and struck out two. San Diego used seven more pitchers, with none of them lasting any longer than two. Drew Pomeranz led the team with three Ks on the night.
The Angels’ Patrick Sandoval (1-4) led Los Angeles in innings pitched with three and a game-high five strikeouts while allowing two hits.
SS David Fletcher put the cap on the game’s scoring with a RBI single in the sixth that would solidify the final score.

San Diego gets tomorrow off before traveling to San Francisco for a four-game series, including a double-header on Friday.
