Game Thread: 8/19 Rangers @ Padres

Let’s continue the sweep at home!

MLB: San Diego Padres at Texas Rangers Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

It’s game three against the Rangers but the first of two between these teams at Petco Park. The Padres won the last two contests at Globe Life Field which has helped keep them from falling further down the division standings. They enter tonight just a half of a game behind the D-backs for third in the NL West and only a single game behind the Rockies in second.

Chris Paddack (2-2) is back on the mound after a disastrous outing against the Diamondbacks over the weekend. He’ll be facing Lance Lynn (3-0) who comes in with an impressive 1.11 ERA and 36 Ks.

News Update:

After a promising start to the season, Edward Olivares hasn’t been nearly as hot and the team has decided to send him out to their alternate training site in return for RHP Michel Baez. The 6’8 Baez played in 24 games last season for San Diego with just a lone start. He finished with an ERA of 3.03 in 29.2 innings pitched and 28 strikeouts.

Starting Lineup:

Most of the players in the lineup remain the same from yesterday’s game in Texas. Naylor is back and he’ll be the team’s DH for the night. The team continues their back-and-forth starts between their pair of active catchers and it’s Hedges’ turn.
