The Padres (11-8) are once again fighting to tie things up with the Dodgers (12-7) for second place in the NL West. After a unexpecting blanking yesterday evening, San Diego should be hungry to get that sour taste out of their mouth.
After leading the big leagues in runs scored for the majority of the season, the Friars are now tied for fifth with 94 runs. Their +13 run differential is still a good deal behind the Rockies (+22) and the Dodgers (+42) who actually lead the majors in that category.
Last night was also the first time all season that Fernando Tatis Jr. failed to get on base. He was a rare 0-for-4 at the plate. Don’t expect to see a repeat of that tonight or anytime soon.
Your pitching matchup tonight is Chris Paddack (2-1) vs. Julio Urias (0-0).
News Update:
Ty France has been optioned to clear space for Jorge Mateo's arrival. Curious that it's France, who was - at the very least - a useful bench bat. The Padres' decision to keep 15 pitchers probably means there's another bullpen day on the horizon.

Hosmer is back at first base tonight for the series finale. No Grisham or Cronenworth is a head-scratcher. Olivares is in at center for Grisham, Profar is back at second, and your DH for this evening is Pham. Hedges is your catcher in this one and Jorge Mateo makes his debut in left field and batting ninth.
