Game Thread: 8/1 Padres @ Rockies

MLB: San Diego Padres at Colorado Rockies Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

The #1 team in the division - yeah, for real - and the only team with six wins on the season heads back to Coors Field to take on the Rockies in game two of their three-game series. A win tonight would keep the Padres in 1st place while giving them their third series win this season.

Tonight’s starting pitchers are LHPs Joey Lucchesi and Kyle Freeland. In his lone appearance this season, Lucchesi worked 3.2 innings and managed two strikeouts while allowing five hits and 2 runs. Freeland has one win on the season after posting five strikeouts and an ERA of 3.00 in last Sunday’s game against the Rangers.

The Padres enter tonight as one the league’s hottest group of bats as they’ve recorded at least five runs in seven of their eight games and seven in over half their matchups. Their 52 runs scored are the most in MLB, with the Atlanta Braves sitting in second with 46.

Starting Lineup:

Tonight’s lineup looks a bit different from what we’ve come to expect in recent nights. Grisham has moved down from the #2 spot to the #6 spot. Machado bumps up one spot along with Pham, Profar, and Myers, with Hedges getting the start tonight with France and Olivares at 1B and RF, respectively.
