The Padres have outscored the Diamondbacks 12-3 through the first two games of the 2020 season. They’re at the halfway point of their four-game series and will look to make it three wins in-a-row to keep manager Jayce Tingler’s record squeaky clean to begin the year.
Last night’s 5-1 victory was fueled by a pair of big swings from DH Wil Myers and 3B Manny Machado. Myers’ home run put the Padres ahead 3-1 in the fourth before Machado’s deep strike brought the score to 5-1. SP Dinelson Lamet was solid in his first start of the year and CL Kirby Yates was as efficient as they get to close out the game.
Your starting pitchers tonight will be veteran Garrett Richards for San Diego and 24-year old Zac Gallen. Gallen spent last season with both the Marlins and Diamondbacks where he posted a 3-6 record and a 2.81 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 90 innings. Richards played late in 2019 after coming back from Tommy John surgery, posting a 0-1 record, an 8.31 ERA, and 11 strikeouts in a little over eight innings.

There’s a bit of a shakeup at the top of the lineup today as CF Trent Grisham has been moved up to #2 behind SS Fernando Tatis Jr. That pushes Machado and Pham down to #3 and #4 while 2B Jurickson Profar drops from #4 to #7. C Austin Hedges gets the first pair of back-to-back starts for either catcher and OF Josh Naylor rounds things out as the team’s DH.
