The Padres host the D-backs tonight in their second meeting of a four-game series to start the 2020 MLB season. Arizona couldn’t overcome the big night from 1B Eric Hosmer who elevated San Diego to their first win on opening night.
28-year old Dinelson Lamet will get the start on the mound tonight against D-backs lefty Robbie Ray. Lamet was 3-5 in 14 starts last year, recording 105 strikeouts and an ERA of 4.07 and a WHIP of 1.26. Ray finished 12-8 in 33 starts with 235 Ks, a 4.34 ERA, and a 1.34 WHIP.
Lamet has solidified himself as the #2 behind Chris Paddack and the team feels encouraged with those two at the top of their rotation. Lamet recently said, “I want to pitch great and I want Chris to pitch great.”
In three preseason games earlier this year, Lamet allowed just three hits and walk with 11 strikeouts through nine innings of work.

The changes from last night’s lineup include C Austin Hedges starting in place of Francisco Mejia and OF Edward Olivares getting the start in right field which moves OF Wil Myers to DH.
Update: 1B Eric Hosmer is a scratch with a “non-coronavirus illness”. IF Ty France takes his place.
Fun Fact: 22 years ago today, longtime pitcher Trevor Hoffman made his debut for the Padres.
