That Game 3 was the pivotal moment for the Padres in the NLCS that year as they came into it down 0-2 against Chicago after losing the first pair of games at Wrigley. The Padres completely turned things around with a decisive 7-1 victory at Jack Murphy Stadium behind Kevin McReynolds’ three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game away for good. Tony Gwynn, Terry Kennedy, and Garry Templeton also went on to score runs for the Friars.
The Padres would go on to win the final two games in the series at Jack Murphy to advance to the 1984 World Series against the Detroit Lions.
