Happy Monday, everyone! Hope you all have a great week. Here’s the latest links.
- Kevin Acee did a Padres mailbag where he answered a really solid amount of Twitter questions. Head on over to give it a read to hear what he has to say in regards to how this delay impacts the season, what it means for Mackenzie Gore making the club and locking up Fernando Tatis Jr. to a long-term contract.
- Jeff Sanders breaks down Joshua Mears, the No. 27 prospect in the Padres organization. Here’s a snippet from the article on what you need to know about the 19-year-old.
A late bloomer on the draft circuit, Mears’ imposing frame offered plenty of reason to dream on a middle-of-the-order hitter. He signed for $1 million as the best power-hitting prospect in the Padres’ 2019 draft class and, after a break to work on a pull-heavy swing, hit .313/.405/.531 with three homers over his final 17 games in the rookie-level Arizona League. He ran a 6.7-second 60-yard dash while the Padres scouted him, and one scout that Mears could develop top-of-the-scale raw power. The Padres believe he’ll be much more than a basher as scouting director Mark Conner indicated after selecting him with the 48th overall pick: “Loved the power, loved the impact he had, but just the quality of handling the zone and putting bat to ball kind of stood out throughout the spring.”
- “All I want for CHEMO is for TATIS to sign my BALD HEAD!” Check out this emotional read from Dennis Lin of The Athletic on how Tatis Jr. signed Padres fan Gina Grosso’s head, and about the events that led up to a brief but memorable interaction.
