Game Thread: 02 MAR Padres @ White Sox

Can our Padres make it 7 in a row?

2B Jurickson Profar celebrates after hitting a 2-run HR.

The Padres took on the most hated, the unclean, the utterly despised San Francisco Giants at the Peoria Sports Complex yesterday. Unlike the day before against the Reds, the Padres ran into a bit of trouble, finding themselves down 3-0 after only 3 innings of play. Fortunately, that’s when the bats came alive. Newly acquired 2B Jurickson Profar took advantage of the wind, slapping a fly ball that just kept carrying until it was over the LF fence. Though the Giants would score 2 more runs against the Friars, our boys wouldn’t be denied. Taking advantage of several Giants’ miscues, the Pads scored 2 in the 5th, 1 from an RBI single from LF Tommy Pham (his 1st hit as a Padre, by-the-by), 2 in the 6th thanks to an absolute bomb from OF Wil Myers, and 1 more in the 7th thanks to a sac fly from INF Ivan Castillo. Here’s some of the highlights below:

Joey Lucchesi did all right in his 2 innings of work, though marred by the RBI single he gave up to Brandon Belt. Joey Fuego gave up 2 hits in total, the 1 ER, walked 1, and K’d 2. The Giants did the majority of their damage against key bullpen pieces Emilio Pagan and Luis Perdomo, as both pitchers gave up 2 runs a piece in their 1 inning and 2 innings of work, respectively. Thankfully, the offense (and the aforementioned Giants miscues) allowed the Padres to come back for the win, 7-5. Here’s the stats:
