Community thread: How did you become a Padres fan?

In a world without sports, a bit of reminiscing isn’t such a bad idea?

MLB: Spring Training-San Diego Padres at Seattle Mariners Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The day is March 15th, 2020. There is no spring training and the MLB regular season has been postponed potentially for two months as the country attempts to combat the coronavirus. All other sports have been canceled as well and it’s really forcing everyone to use their imagination and some ingenuity to get through each day. But just because there’s nothing on television doesn’t mean we can’t continue to have conversations. This place is a community and I was to help reinforce that feeling by taking some extra time to get to know everyone. I’m obviously new to this community and as someone who is going to be around for awhile, it’s my job to connect myself to you all and connect all of you to each other.

With that being said, I want to start things off with a very simple and basic conversation starter to get the thoughts flowing:

How did you become a fan of the San Diego Padres?

Do not be afraid to give some extra thought and effort into this. Feel free to spare no detail and add your own personal flair to your stories. We want to know what made you commit to this team and why you have decided to stick around for so long.

So let’s get this thing rolling. Tell us your story in the comments and let’s start getting connected.
