After 16 straight games, the Pads took a day off before splitting the squad for today’s games.

The Padres took their first day off this spring. After playing in 16 straight games and dropping the last 3, including a 14-2 drubbing at the hands of the Dodgers, the Padres clearly needed it. Hopefully, our Friars made effective use of the day off, because it’s back to work today.

Today’s Games:

In the words of Ernie Banks, “It’s a great day for baseball; let’s play two!” The Padres will split the squad today, sending one team to face the Cubs in Mesa, while the remainder will host the Mariners in Peoria. Cal Quantrill will get the start against the Cubs, while Dinelson Lamet will take the hill against the Mariners, with top prospects MacKenzie Gore and Luis Patiño slated to follow. Game info follows below:

Start Time: Padres @ Cubs: 1805 Pacific time; Padres vs. Mariners: 1840 Pacific time.

Location: Sloan Park in Mesa, AZ; Peoria Stadium in Peoria, AZ.

Radio/TV: Padres @ Cubs: TV on Marquee Sports Network. Padres vs. Mariners: radio broadcast on 97.3 KWFN; TV on Fox Sports - San Diego.

Weather Forecast: Mesa: Cloudy, with temps near 71 degrees Fahrenheit and winds out of the WNW @ 4 mph. Peoria: Cloudy, with temps near 68 degrees Fahrenheit at gametime with winds out of the WSW @ 4 MPH.

I’ll try to post the line-ups if I get a chance.

Go Padres!!
