Tatis, Machado win Silver Slugger Award

The MLB Network announced this year’s Silver Slugger Awards on Thursday afternoon and the Padres are adding a few more pieces of hardware to their 2020 trophy case.

The first Padre announced was Fernando Tatis Jr. who became the youngest player to win a Silver Slugger Award. Tatis slashed .277/.366/.571 this season with an OPS of .937. He led San Diego with 17 home runs to go along with 45 RBIs.Tim Anderson of the White Sox was the winner on the AL side.

The other member of the Padres to win a Silver Slugger award was Manny Machado, who also just won a Gold Glove earlier this week. Machado hit .304 this year with 16 home runs, including one of the team’s historic five grand slams within a six-game span. Jose Ramirez of the Indians was the other third baseman to take home the award.

Both Tatis and Machado are are a part of a league-leading nine different Padres who are up for the All-MLB Team. You can vote for all of the players nominated here.

The Silver Slugger Award is awarded annually to the best offensive player at each position in both the American League and the National League, as determined by the coaches and managers of Major League Baseball.
