Padres drop opener to Rockies

Lamet tagged with loss despite quality start

MLB: Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Dinelson Lamet continued his successful comeback from Tommy John surgery Friday night. The right hander made his 11th start, and it was a good one.

Charlie Blackmon opened the scoring in the 1st with an RBI single. A Ryan McMahon ground out would make it 2-0 Rockies.

Fast forward to the 2nd and Trevor Story hit a ground ball down the line. An off balance Machado made a good play, but threw it away and the run would score.

Eric Hosmer would single in a pair in the bottom of the 4th to make it 3-2.

After that, all bats went silent. The Padres struggled with RISP and couldn’t get Lamet any additional run support.

Lamet went 6 innings giving up 3 runs (1 ER). He looked really sharp his final 4 innings.

Baez, Strahm and Bednar combined for 3 shutout innings in relief. They kept the team in the game, but it wasn’t enough.

The boys are back at it Saturday evening at 5:40 PM. Joey Lucchesi takes the mound looking to secure his 10th win. It would be the first time in his young career that he’d reach that mark.
