If that was the last start of the year for Chris Paddack, he sure finished on a high note. Speculation continues about when the Padres will shut down the star rookie. Paddack threw 5 1⁄3 shutout innings last night to bring his total just under 130 for the year. He struck out 8. The good news? After struggling for most of August, he’s done a 180 and looked excellent his last 2 starts.
Craig Stammen stepped in to get out of a jam in the 6th to keep the game scoreless. After walking 2 in the 7th, Stammen gave way to Luis Perdomo. After loading the bases, he’d give up a grand slam to Ketel Marte. That’d be all the offense the D-backs would need.
Wil Myers added a solo homer with 2 outs in the 9th.
Unfortunately, this series was a microcosm of the season. Win 3 out of 4, get swept.
The Padres play the D-backs 6 more times this year, which isn’t great news considering how poorly the boys have played against them this year.
The Friars return home to face the Colorado Rockies Friday night. Dinelson Lamet looks to continue building on his strong return from Tommy John surgery.
