For the Padres, Garrett Richards was the starting pitcher. This was his second game starting since coming off of Tommy John surgery.
After a scoreless first inning, the Diamondbacks got to Richards quickly.
Following a lead off walk, Richards was able to force Wilmer Flores to pop out. With one out, Adam Jones hit a two-run homer to left field on the first pitch he saw, giving the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead.
Nick Ahmed kept the rally going with a triple to center field. In the next at bat, Carson Kelly drove Ahmed on a single to left field giving the Diamondbacks a 3-0 lead.
Diamondbacks starting pitcher Robbie Ray laid down a sacrifice bunt moving Ahmed over to 2nd base with two outs.
Abraham Almonte brought Ahmed in with a double to center field giving the Diamondbacks a 4-0 lead.
Following a walk to the next batter, the Padres pulled Richards and brought in Javy Guerra.
Guerra was able to get the Padres out of the inning, forcing Eduardo Escobar to groundout to Ty France.
After a scoreless 3rd inning, the Padres were able to get on the board. Following a Hunter Renfroe walk, Ty France homered to right field making the score 4-2.
In the 6th inning, the Padres were able push Robbie Ray out of the game. Ray walked Renfroe and hit France giving the Padres a man on first and second with no outs. After Ray stuck out Luis Urias, he was relieved by Matt Andriese.
Andries was able to get Eric Hosmer to line out to left field for the 2nd out of the inning. With two outs, Seth Mejias-Brean hit a single to left field driving a run in. The score was now 4-3.
In the following at bat, Francisco Mejia pinch hit for Eric Yardley. Mejia was able to hit the first pitch he saw down the field line for a double. This hit scored France from second tying the game up at 4.
Andriese was able to get Manuel Margot to strike out to get out of the inning.
Craig Stammen, David Bednar, Kirby Yates, and Matt Strahm were all able to keep the Diamondbacks scoreless for the final 4 innings of the game.
In the bottom of the 9th, France doubled but the Padres were unable to drive him in.
To lead off the bottom of the 10th, Greg Garcia doubled on a line drive to left field.
In the next at bat, Seth Mejias-Brean hit a walk off home run. This was his second career home run and first career walk off home run.
This was a great win for the Padres following the team firing Andy Green. This win also pushed the Diamondbacks elimination number to one game.
