The Padres are getting a nice boost as it was announced that Garrett Richards will make his season debut Monday. Richards figures to be a integral part of the 2020 team that everyone expects to be competitive.
This will be his first action in 14 months. It’ll be interesting to watch how he’s handled as he figures to get at least 2 starts before the end of the season.
The Padres rotation seems to have a requirement for having Tommy John Surgery before making the team. Richards joins Chris Paddack and Dinelson Lamet as surgery veterans.
Both Paddack and Lamet have shown well this year, so there’s reason to believe the former 15 game winner can return to form. Fans everywhere will be watching to see what kind of stuff he has. If he pitches well, San Diegans will likely be convinced that he’ll contend for a Cy Young award.
