Paddack, Margot lead Padres to win over Cubs

Pads shut out Cubbies on ESPN

MLB: Chicago Cubs at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The Padres won their second consecutive game over the Cubs on Wednesday night at Petco Park.

Manuel Margot led the charge offensively for San Diego, opening the scoring with his 12th homer of the year in the fifth, notching two more hits, stealing a base and robbing a home run all in a night’s work.

Chris Paddack was brilliant in what might be one of the final starts of his 2019 season: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. He’s allowed just one run over his last 18.1 innings, and his season ERA now sits at 3.38.

Seth Mejias-Brean made his major-league debut at first base, and doubled for his first career knock.

Wil Myers’ two-RBI single in the seventh stretched the Friar lead to four and his hitting streak to 11.

The series finale will be Thursday afternoon at 12:40 PM. Dinelson Lamet and Yu Darvish will take the hill.
