Margot’s walkoff walk lifts Padres over Cubs

Thank you Steve Cishek!

It took more innings than it probably should have, but the Padres bounced back and picked up a 9-8 win against the Cubs on Tuesday night at Petco Park.

Luis Urías’ infield single in the bottom of the tenth got the rally started, and from there the Pads secured the win without ever putting the ball in play. Austin Hedges walked. Travis Jankowski walked. Manuel Margot walked. Ballgame.

Andres Muñoz gave up two bombs in a rare off-night in the eighth - one to Kris Bryant and one to Jason Heyward. It was the second homer of the night for both.

The Pads hung a five-spot in the second, sparked by an Urías RBI single. Then Ronald Bolaños somehow ended up on second with a pair of runs in after some a little-league fielding clinic by Cubs’ second baseman Ben Zobrist. Nick Martini added a sac fly in the inning to put San Diego up 5-2 at the time.

Speaking of Bolaños, he tossed gave up five runs on five hits over five innings while striking out...five. Outside of the Muñoz three-run eighth, the bullpen pieced together scoreless innings in relief.

Game three of the series will be Wednesday night at 7:10 PM.
