It had been 3 weeks since Wil Myers homered. Last night, he finally ran into one. His 2 run shot extended the Padres lead to 4-1 in the 9th. It was all the insurance they’d need.
Joey Lucchesi labored most of the night but gave up just 1 ER over 6 innings.
The big moment in the game came in the bottom of the 6th. Tied 1-1, the Giants loaded the bases. After a mound visit where most assumed Lucchesi would get the hook, he induced an inning ending double play to avoid the threat. It was an important moment for the 2nd year starter as he’s struggled the 3rd time through the lineup in his career. Credit Andy Green for extending him.
Josh Naylor and Manuel Margot would contribute RBI singles on the night as well.
Nick Martini went 2-4 in his 1st start as a Padre.
Craig Stammen would handle the 7th and 8th inning before yielding to Kirby Yates. In true Yates fashion, he struck out the side for his 39th save.
The Padres send Eric Lauer to the mound Sunday afternoon looking for a series win. Game time is 1:05 PT.
