Paddack shelled, Padres crushed by a Red Sox

Padres play sloppy baseball in series opener

MLB: Boston Red Sox at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Players weekend didn’t get off to the start the Padres were hoping for. The Red Sox pounded the Padres 11-0 Friday night.

Chris Paddack got hit hard early and often. The Sheriff lasted just 2 13 giving up 7 hits and 6 ER. He didn’t record a strikeout. He just simply didn’t have it. He may only have 1-2 more starts left before he’s shut down for the rest of the year.

It was an abysmal night for the Padres offense. The sellout crowd of nearly 43,000 watched as the team had just 2 runners reach 2nd base. They also committed 3 errors, although none would come around to score. It was sloppy baseball at it’s worst.

J.D Martinez had himself a career night. He took Padre pitching deep twice en route to a 7 RBI day.

Eduardo Rodriguez improved to 15-5 on the year. He looked dominant over 7 shutout innings.

The Padres look to bounce back on Saturday night by sending Dinelson Lamet to the mound. Lamet has pitched well since returning from Tommy John Surgery. He’ll face off against Nathan Eovaldi.

Game time is at 5:40 PT. Reminder it’s Sky Blast night! Fans will be sticking around for post game fireworks.
