The Sheriff takes the mound in series opener vs. Red Sox

Names like Wil and Naylz will show up on jerseys for Players Weekend

Chris Paddack kicks off players weekend on Friday night for the Padres. He’ll take on Eduardo Rodriguez and the Boston Red Sox.

In his last 14 23 IP, Paddack has given up 13 ER. Most of his issues are coming with 2 strikes. He’s still had an excellent rookie season despite the recent struggles.

The Red Sox find themselves 6.5 games back in the wild card despite their 68-61 record. Of course, ask any Boston fan and they’ll tell you Sox have massively underachieved.

On the other hand, the Friars are 59-67 and 8.5 games back. Unfortunately, a season that looked promising early on is fading fast. The good news? The talent on the way gets even better. The team has improved and is infinitely more exciting.

While the Padres are in development mode (and look increasingly likely to make a manager change) the Red Sox believe they can still make a late playoff push. There’s no question this is an important series for them.
