Padres lose finale to Rockies, welcome Tampa Bay Monday night

Bullpen wastes another solid Lamet outing

MLB: Colorado Rockies at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The Padres came into Sunday’s ballgame looking to sweep the rival Rockies.

In fact, it got off to a nice start. Francisco Mejia continued to hit, slugging his 6th homer of the year in the 2nd inning. Josh Naylor would follow suit with a solo shot of his own in the 3rd to give the boys a 2-0 lead.

Dinelson Lamet was outstanding through 5 innings. However, he ran into trouble in the 6th and gave up a game tying 2 run homer to Yonder Alonso. Lamet would exit, and Craig Stammen would get shelled for the second consecutive night.

Lamet’s went 5+ giving up 2 ER while striking out 7.

The Rockies would add 4 more runs against Matt Strahm and Carl Edwards Jr. The bullpen continued it’s roller coaster season en route to an 8-3 loss. The Friars still won the series, and will welcome the Tampa Bay Rays to town tomorrow night.

Joey Lucchesi will take the bump at 7:05 PM.
