On August 1st, the Padres took on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first of a four game series. Going into tonight’s game San Diego was sitting 7 games under .500.
Joey Lucchesi got the start tonight and threw a solid 5 innings, but in the bottom of the 6th the Dodgers’ bats came alive. Trey Wingenter was called in with the bases loaded and Wil Smith took full advantage, hitting a grand slam to center field. Adrian Morejon gave up 2 more runs during his 2 inning outing, but lucchesi was credited with the loss.
The Padres struggle to get hits when it counted, going 1-11 with RSIP and leaving 11 runners on base. One of the few positives to take away from tonight’s loss was Hunter Renfroe hitting his 30th home run of the year in the 2nd inning.
Final score: Dodgers 8-2
