The San Diego Padres have now dropped five games in a row after a 5-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. But hey, let’s look on the bright side. After giving up no less than seven runs in any of the three games against the Giants, they only gave up five tonight. Small victories.
On a more serious note, Dinelson Lamet returned to the mound today for the first time since September of 2017. He did a fine job.
The Dodgers are a much better team than the Giants, so hopefully the offense will come around a bit more in the coming games. This is a four game set, so there are three more chances to see the explosive offense the Padres had against the Cardinals.
Frankly, the Dodgers only got one more hit in the game than the Padres. They just drove the runners in more efficiently. Though it does not help when Lamet hits Joc Pederson, which in turn brings home a run.
Oh, and Cody Bellinger is still good in case you were wondering.
The lone run for the Padres came when Eric Hosmer singled home Fernando Tatis Jr. in the eighth inning.
Tomorrow is a new day. There is still a chance to be relevant in this series and that starts by playing well tomorrow. First pitch is set for 7:10 PM PDT with Eric Lauer (5-7, 4.22 ERA) squaring off against Clayton Kershaw (7-2, 3.23 ERA).
