WHY: The San Diego Padres have continued their skid and fallen further out of the Wild Card race, but today is an exciting day for Padres fans. One of the system’s top prospects (#4 in the Padres system and 46th in all of basebll), Adrian Morejon, is making his Major League debut today. This season, Morejon has made 16 starts for the Double-A Amarillo Sod Poodles. He has struck out over 11 per 9 innings while allowing less than 1 long ball per 9. His control has left something to be desired, however, as he has been walking 3.75 base on balls per 9 innings. The 20-year-old top prospect’s fastball sits in the 94-98 mph range, and his curveball and changeup are both plus pitches.
