Report: Latest on possible Kirby Yates trade

Yates unlikely to be dealt

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

MLB trade rumors wrote about a possible Kirby Yates trade. Personally, I think it would be more than unwise to consider trading the star closer. Yates was a late bloomer and is performing at an elite level. It sounds like the team knows they’re legitimate contenders. He’s 33, but still has several years where he can pitch like this. If the Padres are buyers, they could look at acquiring another bullpen piece as well as a Starting Pitcher. They’ll undoubtedly be in the thick of the wild card race. They’re 42-42 and still just 2 GB in the WC race. 85-87 wins could very well sneak into the playoffs.

“Yates would no doubt bring back a substantial return, something the Padres unsurprisingly would want for him. However, it’s debatable whether the Padres should seriously consider dealing him this month. At 42-41, they’re finally making real progress in the standings and have an actual chance to break a 12-year playoff drought this year. San Diego’s just a game and a half back of a wild-card spot in a crowded National League field, and a decent portion of its success has come on account of Yates.”
