WHY: On the heels of getting swept at home by the Atlanta Braves, the Padres turn to rookie Logan Allen to get things back on track against the Marlins. Allen is making his first start since spending the end of the first half of the season working out of the bullpen. Since making his first Major League appearance, Allen’s strikeout numbers have been a little lower than you would like, and his walk numbers have been a little on the high side, but he has managed to have success in large part thanks to his ability to keep the ball inside the park.
As usual, Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. were execellent over the weekend, but the rest of the lineup was unfortunately largely missing in action. They’ll need to right the ship this afternoon against Jordan Yamamoto.
