WHY: Following a dominant performance from Eric Lauer and the Padres offense, the Swinging Friars have an opportunity to claim the series with a victory tonight and they will have their ace on the mound as they take the field. Chris Paddack was cuffed around in his last start against the New York Yankees, but the Phillies are not quite as dangerous of a lineup and PetCo Park where there is no designated hitter is a far friendlier field for the pitcher.
Offensively, the Padres are hoping to keep things rolling after yesterday’s outstanding effort at the plate. Hopefully, Manny Machado in particular can use Monday’s grand slam as a jumping off point to get back to being Manny.
