WHY: Yesterday, the Padres offense could do no wrong as they erupted for 12 runs in support of their young ace, Chris Paddack. It continued what had already been an excellent month of hitting for the Friars. They currently rest in 3rd among MLB teams in wRC+ for the month of June (behind only the Braves and Yankees). Former Padre Miles Mikolas will take the mound for the Cardinals and attempt to slow down the San Diego juggernaut.
For the home team, Joey Lucchesi will make his 16th start of the season and will hope to replicate last start’s peripherals but with a better outcome in terms of runs allowed. Against the Pirates, Lucchesi allowed no walks or home runs and struck out 4 over 5 innings of work. If he can do that again today, the Padres should be looking at a sweep.
