After a week off, Craig Elsten and myself got back together to talk about the San Diego Padres and the tear that Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. have been on.
Seriously, we spent a long time gushing over these two superstars and what it means for the future of the team.
Later, Craig and I looked at the Wild Card standings and made our declarations on whether or not the Padres should be buyers or sellers in the July MLB trading market.
So as to not force you to listen to the podcast to get the answer: we’re both crazy, and we both want the team to be buyers. One, to make a run at the playoffs and perhaps erase the laughingstock image that has followed the Padres around for years. Two, because there’s not a lot that the Padres should be looking to sell right now. At least not anyone that is going to get you back a major prospect.
What do you think? Should the Padres add a bullpen arm and go for a playoff appearance, or sell high on Kirby Yates (and maybe an outfielder) to try and get another piece for the future?
