Padres get swept in Pittsburgh

Bullpen blows 2 3 run leads

MLB: San Diego Padres at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

On June 18, the Padres took the loss in the last game of the Pirates series. This was another one of those games that sends your emotions for a ride. In the 11th inning, the Padres scored 3 runs, putting them in the lead, but the Pirates came back with four more runs of their own, winning them game.

Joey Lucchesi started at the mound and pitched 5 innings. Lucchesi pitched 86 total pitches with 56 strikes, giving up 4 runs and 6 hits. As for the Padres bullpen, Cal Quantrill and Luis Perdomo came in and pitched scoreless innings. Kirby Yates and Phil Maton both gave up three runs and Matt Wisler gave up 2 in his 0.1 innings pitched, giving Wisler the loss.

As the score suggests, the Padres offense showed up to play, scoring 10 runs off 13 hits. Collectively the team went 7-18 with RISP, but even after going up 10-7 in the top of the 11th, it was not enough to snag a win.

After being swept by the Pirates, the Padres drop to two games below .500.

Final score: Pirates 11-10

The Padres get the day off tomorrow before heading to Baltimore for a quick two game series.
