Paddack returns, Padres drop game two in Pittsburgh

Padres bullpen takes another loss

MLB: San Diego Padres at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

On June 22, the Padres took on the Pirates in the second game of the series. The Padres jumped out to a one to nothing lead in the top of the 4th, off a Manny Machado solo homer to left center. Sadly, that lead was short lived as the Pirates answered back in the bottom of the 5th with a two-run shot of their own. In the top of the 7th, the Padres were able to score Manuel Margot off a sacrifice fly by Fernando Tatis Jr, tying the game back at 2. However, in the bottom of the 8th, the Pirates came back once again, scoring 4 runs, leaving the Padres down 6-2. With the game on the line in the top of the 9th, San Diego was only able to muster up one more run, coming from an RBI single off the bat of Machado.

The Sheriff, Chris Paddack was back at the mound today throwing 85 total pitches with 55 strikes. Paddack gave up two runs in his 5-inning performance. After 5 innings, Brad Wieck and Trey Wingenter each pitched scoreless innings, but Craig Stammen gave up four runs in the bottom of the 8th.

Although we took the loss, the Padres are a resilient group of guys. It was good to see Paddack back in the lineup and keep the Padres in it through his 5 innings of play.

Final score: Pirates 6-3

Tomorrow at 10:35am PT the Padres give the ball to Joey Lucchesi in one last game against the Pirates.
