It was a rough night for the Padres. The only time they could slow down the suddenly dynamic Miami offense was during a humorous Bee delay. Ya, that happened again.
Matt Strahm had his worst outing of the year giving up 7 ER in 4 1⁄3 innings of work. It was the exclamation point on a really disappointing series.
Jorge Alfaro and Garret Cooper both took Strahm deep in the 2nd and 3rd inning respectively. Both came with 2 outs as well.
Unfortunately the Padres offensive woes continued. They struck out 12 times to add to their National League leading 570 through 59 games. Apparently having the right “launch angle” only works when you make contact. Who knew?
Hunter Renfroe supplied all the offense for the team. His 2 home runs (including a 2 run shot in the 9th) brought him up to a team leading 17 on the year.
Ty France came in to pitch in the 9th and limited the Marlins to just a single. It was his first career pitching performance.
They’re back at it tomorrow night at 7:10 PM against the visit Philadelphia Phillies.
