WHO: San Diego Padres vs. Miami Marlins
WHAT: The rubber match!
WHEN: Sunday, June 2, 2019, at 3:10 p.m.
WHERE: PetCo Park
HOW: Watch on FOX Sports San Diego (or FOX Sports Go), listen on 97.3FM The Fan. Spanish broadcasts on FOX Deportes San Diego and XEMO 860AM.
WHY: After yesterday’s 9-3 loss, the Padres return today with an opportunity to win the series behind Matt Strahm. The converted reliever has been mostly excellent since joining the rotation and is actually coming off a start in which he struck out a career-high 10 batters at Yankee Stadium. Strahm’s fastball velocity is down nearly 3 miles per hour from last year, but his walk rate has also dropped substantially.
On the position player side of things, Hunter Renfroe has taken the team lead in WAR despite a sub-.300 on-base percentage thanks to his prolific slugging numbers and solid outfield defense. Hopefully, today Renfroe and co. can get on the board early against the Marlins’ Trevor Richards.
