WHO: San Diego Padres vs. Toronto Blue Jays

WHAT: The slugging Friars try to keep their winning streak alive

WHEN: Saturday, May 25, 2019, at 12:07 p.m.

WHERE: Rogers Centre

HOW: Watch on FOX Sports San Diego (or FOX Sports Go), listen on 97.3FM The Fan. Spanish broadcasts on FOX Deportes San Diego and XEMO 860AM.

WHY: Edwin Jackson makes his third start of the season, and he was lit up to the tune of 6 runs in 5 innings during his last trip to the mound. San Diego will counter with rookie starter Cal Quantrill who has struggled early on in his Major League career and will need to find success sooner than later if he wishes to stay in the rotation or even the Majors.

While things aren’t rosy for Quantrill, they’re not all bad either. His 5.40 ERA is inflated somewhat by a .385 BABIP which almost can’t help but fall (his FIP is only 3.82) and that gives good reason for optimism.

Even if Quantrill is unable to shut down the Blue Jays offense, the Padres offense has shown signs of life recently (scoring 5 and 6 runs in their last two games) and could carry the day. Over the last week of play, Greg Garcia and Hunter Renfroe have been the most effective hitters on the team slashing .353/.353/.647 and .278/.316/.667 respectively.
