Francisco Mejia landed on the IL May 11th with a sprained knee. Austin Allen has filled in as the backup catcher during that time.
Mejia is eligible to be reactivated at anytime, so I’d imagine he’ll be back up with the team by early next week.
During his absence, Austin Allen has filled in as the backup and hit .143 in limited action.
It’s worth noting that no Padre catcher is hitting over .176. It’s been a black hole of sorts for the team. Austin Hedges has received a bulk of the playing time, but he’s considered a defensive catcher.
Mejia is in the 2 hole tonight for the Chihuahuas. We’ll be watching him closely to see if he looks healthy.
