When Nick Margevicius gave up a home run to Gregory Polanco in the Top of the 5th his night was officially over. 4+ innings, 8 hits, 6 ER and 4 HR. Ouch.
The Pirates got the Margevicius in the 2nd inning when Josh Bell and Bryan Reynolds went deep. It was downhill from there for the rookie left hander.
Bell got to him again in the 3rd with a 3 run shot. Bell is 4th in the NL hitting a cool .333. He was a one man wrecking ball last night as well.
Manny Machado came through with an RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd to give the Padres some hope. Unfortunately the rally didn’t materialize and they would never lead.
Both Embattled 2nd baseman Ian Kinsler and Left Fielder Hunter Renfroe went 2 for 4 on the night. Kinsler raised hit average up to .188 with the 2 hit game.
On Sunday the Padres look to rookie Cal Quantrill to earn a split in the series. He faces off against 26 year old Joe Musgrove. Musgrove threw 7 shut out innings against the Diamondbacks his last outing.
1st pitch is 1:10 PM PDT
