Cal Quantrill’s first Major League start

MLB: Spring Training-Seattle Mariners at San Diego Padres Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

WHO: San Diego Padres vs. Atlanta Braves

WHAT: Cal Quantrill makes his Major League debut

WHEN: Wedesday, May 1, 2019, at 4:20 p.m.

WHERE: SunTrust Park

HOW: Watch on FOX Sports San Diego (or FOX Sports Go), listen on 97.3FM The Fan. Spanish broadcasts on FOX Deportes San Diego and XEMO 860AM.

WHY: Yesterday, Chris Paddack and Franmil Reyes carried the Padres to victory over the Braves. Tonight, they will look to rookie Cal Quantrill making his first start in the Majors.

Through five minor league starts for the El Paso Chihuahuas Quantrill has maintained a respectable FIP of 4.00. That number is obviously made more impressive thanks to his playing in the Pacific Coast League where offense reigns supreme (see: Luis Urias hitting three home runs in one game this past week).

Opposite Quantrill will be another one-time Padres pitching prospect in Max Fried. Fried, as you’ll recall, was shipped to the Braves as part of the package that netted the Friars Justin Upton.
