After last night’s near-disaster, it seemed all but certain that Gerardo Reyes and Robert Stock would be sent down to the minor leagues to work on their control before getting another shot at major-league hitters.
The #Padres have recalled RHPs Phil Maton and Luis Perdomo from Triple-A El Paso and optioned RHPs Gerardo Reyes and Robert Stock to El Paso

Yup!
Phil Maton, in particular, was a sure thing to return to the team once they got back from their grueling road trip (which ends today). He’ll work on lowing the 6.75 ERA he built up in 4 innings before getting sent down, and leave behind a 4.50 ERA in 4 innings for the El Paso Chihuahuas.
Luis Perdomo, once thought to be a potential piece of the San Diego Padres starting rotation, has reinvented himself as a relief pitcher. He has a 1.35 ERA through four AAA relief appearances this year, and seems a perfect fit for the 2-inning holds that the Padres’ young starting rotation has been asking for. We’ll see if he can carry that success to the MLB level.
